Log of H.M.S. Atalanta, 1790.

Manuscript ship's log, evidently of the Atalanta, from Jan. 1-July 3, 1790. The Atalanta was then part of a squadron under the command of Commodore William Cornwallis. The ship spent a good part of the first half of 1790 in Bombay (now Mumbai) harbor; it also sailed to Pinang in what is now Malaysia. The log gives a detailed account of the ship's course, the winds, weather, harbor depths, and how the crew was deployed from day to day.
